Le Havre, Birthplace of Impressionism
The skies of the estuary, the omnipresence of the sea, the lively port and the startling lights have allowed Le Havre to become the cradle of Impressionism. When Claude Monet painted the outer harbour of Le Havre in 1873 with the figurehead painting “Impression, Sunrise” (the masterpiece that gave its name to the Impressionist movement), Le Havre entered in the World History of Art.
The Malraux Museum has now become an unmissable stop for art lovers; this building of glass facing the sea invites you to discover the first Impressionist collection of France (after the Orsay Museum). Famous paintings by Monet, Courbet, Pissarro, Sisley, Boudin, Renoir or Degas live together and benefit from the wonderful natural light of the Museum.
We invite you to live a unique & breathtaking experience while discovering the panoramas which have inspired the impressionist painters: a flight over the cliffs of the “Albâtre coast” from Le Havre to Etretat; 30 minutes of pure emotion up in the air, halfway between the sea and the cliffs!
